35th Kagyu Monlam Postponed, Karmapa Health Update

The 35th Kagyu Monlam scheduled to take place in India in the end of December this year has been postponed and we also bring you an update to the health of His Holiness the Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje. While the Karmapa has been stay in the US due to health concerns is reported to be improving well.

The upcoming Kagyu monlam which will be presided over by the Gyalwang Karmapa has been postponed from the scheduled date of 26th December this year to  the end of February next year at his suggestion.

“At the suggestion of the Gyalwang Karmapa, it has been decided to postpone the 35th Kagyu Monlam until February 2018, in order to reduce difficulties by having events successively and to make it easier for monks and nuns to attend. The Kagyu Guncho lasts for several weeks and the weather in Bodhgaya gets hot, so it will be postponed until the end of 2018. The Arya Kshema Winter Dharma Gathering will be held following the Monlam.” announced the Kagyu Office in their official website.

The reasons being; 26th Sakya Monlam Chenmo will be held in Bodhgaya from December 26, 2017 to January 4, 2018, Gedun Chotrul Chenmo and Jang Guncho will be held in Bodhgaya over the course of fifteen days in January 2018 and the hundred-day teaching on Mahamudra at Sherabling Monastery and the Kangyur transmission at Rumtek Monastery will last well into December 2017 said the announcement.

Now the updated schedule remains as Pre-Monlam Teachings on The King of Samadhi Sutra between February 22–24, 2018 while the 35th Kagyu Monlam is scheduled to be held between February 26–March 5, 2018. The Arya Kshema Winter Dharma Gathering is scheduled between March 8 and March 25 next year.

In addition these updates, in a public notice from Karma Triyana Dharmachakra, the North America seat of the Karmapa which shared an update about the health of the spiritual leader and it is completely as it said that His Holiness is improving every day.

“Many have inquired about His Holiness’ health out of great love for the Guru. Please be assured that there is no need for worry. His Holiness Karmapa is receiving excellent care and his health is improving every day. The best thing is for everyone to do their regular practice with devotion and the sincere aspiration that His Holiness’ life be long and healthy and that His Dharma activity continues to flourish.” said the announcement.
