34th Kalachakara Will Be Held From 3-14th January 2017

A circular has been issued by the Kashag secretariat regarding the schedule of the next Kalachakara religious initiations which is announced to be held from 3rd January to 14th January, 2017.

“As per the request of the Kashag, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has already announced at the Tashi Lhunpo monastery earlier this year that he will hold the Kalackhara initiations in January 2017,” the circular said.

“Therefore, we would like to inform you that the Kalchakra initiations will be held at the holy city of Bodh Gaya from 3 – 14 January 2017,” the circular added.

The Kalachakara (Wheel of Time) religious initiations which is given by His Holiness the Dalai Lama is one of the largest and the most auspicious events in the Tibetan community as well as the buddhist community.

“Since 1954, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has given 33 Kalachakra Initiations, including four times at Bodh Gaya in 1974, 1985, 2003 and 2012. The Kalachakra held in 2012 at Bodh Gaya drew over 200,000 devotees from across the world including about 8,000-10,000 Tibetans from Tibet.” said a report in the website of Central Tibetan Administration.

The last scheduled Kalachakara had been canceled and the issue had been a huge fuss to do in the campaigns of the two candidates of the Sikyong 2016 election. Speaker Penpa Tsering and Sikyong Lobsang Sangay had politicised the issue in their campaigns.

Awing to the postponed schedule and the scale of the holiness of the venue, the upcoming 34th Kalachakara will be an event to look at.
