In a serious news break out, 30 COVID-19 positive cases has been reported from a Tibetan old age home in India. According to the latest updates from Ladakh, a cluster case of Coronavirus infection has been identified from a Tibetan old age home managed by Tibetan Children’s Village in Ladakh on Tuesday.
According Chief Representative Officer, Mr. Tseten Wangchuk’s update to the Voice of Tibet, a care taker staff of the old age home is found to be the primary spreader. The Officer explained that the care taker had previously went to help an old aged person admitted at a local hospital and later returned to take care of the old people at the institute.
The staff is reported to have complained of not feeling well post 15 days of her visit to the hospital. She reportedly tested COVID-19 positive and it alerted the authorities to test rest of the old people at the institute. The Chief Representative Officer has informed that 30 old people from there tested positive to Coronavirus infection.
The Old People’s Home looks for people above the age of 60 and those infected are aged ranging between 60 and 98. With the help of local authorities, all infected people have been kept in isolation at the old people home. Though it is reported that there are no very serious cases among the infected, with all of them falling in the high risk patients, all necessary medical supports have been arranged.
Latest update from the Central Tibetan Administration reports a total of 114 COVID-19 positive cases among Tibetans from India, Nepal and Bhutan. The latest addition of more than 30 positive cases from a particular settlement is the highest record from any region. This incident has sent a strong message to all Tibetan settlements, alerting them of ensuring stricter quarantine rules.
